University of Bremen in Germany offering full scholarships for PhD in Engineering Sciences 2016 - 2017

PhD Position 1 Full
Faculty 4 (Production Engineering - Mechanical Engineering and Process Engineering) from the University of Bremen offer - conditional on the release of budget funds

1 Full PhD Position (TV-L 13)
Working for a PhD in Engineering Sciences (Dr.-Ing.)

Duration of the course: starting August 1st, 2016 until July, 31st, 2019.
Scholarship can be taken in Germany
Nationality: Norwegian and foreign applicants can apply for this fellowship.
Application Deadline: Application deadline is 15 August 2016.

We invite highly motivated and exceptional graduate students (Master / Diploma) degree in 2016 with a background in materials science and chemical engineering and related fields to apply.

The project is in the DFG priority program SPP1934 Dispersitäts-, Struktur- Phasenänderungen und von und Proteinen biologischen Agglomeraten in biotechnologischen Prozessen.

Project: single droplet experiments to study the mechanical and thermal degradation of proteins during spray drying

Experiments with single droplets are a common technique to investigate the spray drying basics. only experiments droplets will be performed using a generator piezoelectric droplets in a drying chamber. The droplet size is controlled by means of a CCD camera and the Mie scattering imaging. This method also provides information on the aggregate formation and precipitation within a drop. The temperature and concentration profiles of the protein will be measured with the technique of Rainbow. Using fluorescence spectroscopy with specific dyes fluoresce can track the progress and protein denaturation.

Our goal is a relationship between the spray drying process parameters such as droplet size, the protein concentration and the functional groups of proteins, the additives of the solution as well as the gas composition and the temperature and degradation kinetics. The hypothesis of the project is that the time-resolved in situ measurements of droplet size, temperature distribution inside the droplets and provide UV fluorescence protein kinetics of protein degradation.

Qualifications:
Candidates must have a good bachelor's (degree or equivalent) in engineering (mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, materials science), physics, chemistry and pharmaceutical science.

The experiences in the field of distribution of light measurements or simulations, technical optics or laser particle optical sizing an advantage.

Excellent English communication skills are essential as well computer literacy.
A basic knowledge of German would be an advantage. Mastering the German language is not essential but applicants must be willing to learn German.

Further information can be obtained by e-mail or telephone.

The University of Bremen intends to further increase the share of women in academic employment; Women are explicitly encouraged to apply. Candidates with a migratory background and international applications are very welcome. Disabled applicants will receive a preferred return on equally qualified contenders.

The application must include a detailed curriculum vitae and analyzes the usual documentation and a brief explanation of how your skills and interests match the position.

Please send your application with the usual documents until July 12, 2016 Specifying the position code A132 / 16
